Yesterday IPL Match Highlights & Result: RCB vs MI (9th April 2021): The 14th season of the Indian Premier League started with a lot of excitement. The 1st match was played between Virat’s RCB and Rohit’s MI which resulted in a win for RCB.

RCB won the toss and elected to bowl first. Mumbai batted first and scored 159 runs with the loss of 6 wickets.

Chris Lynn was the highest scorer from the Mumbai Indians side. He scored 49 runs that included 3 sixes.

Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan were the other two batsmen whose small but beneficial innings of 31 runs and 28 runs also helped Mumbai to reach this score.

Mumbai was not able to score big due to the fantastic bowling of RCB’s Harshal Patel who took 5 wickets and gave only 27 runs in his spell of 4 overs.

In the answer, RCB with the help of ABD’s and Maxwell’s innings managed to win this match by 2 wickets.

ABD played brilliantly as always and made 48 runs off 27 balls and Maxwell made 39 runs off 28 balls.

Both these key players of RCB helped RCB to win this match that went till the last ball.

After the match, Kohli said, “We also won our first match last year. It is very important that you test your side by playing against the strongest team of the tournament. Everyone contributed to the match and when you win the match by two wickets, it means that every player in the team played their role.”

He said, “The pitch was good in the first half, but to be honest, it was a little difficult to overcome the old ball with the length ball. For this reason, the partnership between me and Maxwell and AB and Maxwell was very important. We made a good comeback and used the conditions properly.”

ABD’s run out in the last over

RCB’s pillar of batting AB Devilliers once again proved his worth who propelled the RCB innings and helped them to win by 2 wickets.

At a time, RCB was confidently moving towards the target with a score of 98-2. But suddenly wickets started falling and they were struggling at 122-6.

RCB’s chances of winning were fading but ABD with his experience kept on fighting and won the match for his team.

His wicket fell down in the last over where he was run out with 2 balls remaining.

Harshal Patel’s Fifer against MI

RCB’s bowler Harshal Patel made history in the IPL where he took 5 wickets against Mumbai Indians.

He took 3 wickets in the last over and finished his bowling spell with a fantastic figure of 4-27-5.

Not any other bowler has claimed 5 wickets against Mumbai Indians before. This bowling figure is also his best bowling figure in his IPL career.

Also, this is the best bowling figure against MI by any bowler.

Chahal’s 100th IPL match

RCB’s leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal completed his century of matches in the first match of the IPL 2021.

He has taken 121 wickets in his 100 matches in the IPL and his best bowling figure is 4-25-4.

The record of the most number of IPL matches played by any player is in the name of legendary wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Dhoni has played 204 IPL matches followed by Rohit Sharma who has played 201 matches.

Marco Jansen Debut

20-year-old fast bowler Marco Jansen got a chance to debut in the IPL 2021 from MI.

He was playing in the place of Nathan Coulter Nile. He bowled his full quota of 4 overs and took 2 important wickets while spending 28 runs.

One of the key wickets taken by him was of Glenn Maxwell after which RCB struggled to win.

Washington Sundar’s Opening

Washington Sundar’s opening with Virat Kohli was another key moment in Yesterday’s match.

Everyone was expecting that Virat will open with young batsman Rajat Patidar but team management decided to send Washington Sundar instead of him to open with Kohli.

However, this decision didn’t prove fruitful as Sundar got out soon and scored only 10 runs.
