IPL 2021 Auction Likely to Happen in 2nd Week of Februrary

IPL governing council has taken a decision that IPL 2021 auction can take place in the 2nd week of February. It has also set January 20 as the last date for all the 8 IPL teams to submit the names of the players who will be retained or released.

Both these decisions were taken in the IPL governing council meet which was held virtually on Monday 4th January 2021.

The IPL 2021 schedule and venues are still not decided. BCCI in its AGM recently made it clear that IPL 2021 will remain an 8 team tournament and 2 new teams will be added in IPL 2022.

IPL 2021 auction venue is also not decided. The auction will be a full day-long event and it’s likely to be held in the short break between the 1st and the 2nd test match between India and England in the month of February.

IPL 2021 in India? Not clear

It’s still not clear whether IPL 2021 will be organized in India or not. With the growing threat of Coronavirus, BCCI has also kept UAE as one of the options for the tournament venue due to the successful 2020 season.

Franchises are also keen to know about the venue for IPL 2021 but right now, they are busy selecting the list of players whom they would release and retain.

This year IPL auction will also see an increase in the spending amount that is likely to increase by 3 crores.

CSK has the least balance while KXIP has the largest balance of 16.5 crores. Here is the balance of other IPL teams.

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad – 10.1 crores
  • Delhi Capitals – 9 crores
  • Kolkata Knight Riders – 8.5 crores
  • Royal Challengers Banglore – 6.4 crores
  • Mumbai Indians – 1.95 crores
