If everything goes as planned, then IPL 2022 will be played from April 2022 to May 2022.
So in that case, IPL 2022 mega auction will most probably take place in January 2022.
Before that, all the teams will have to inform the BCCI about the 4 players they are going to retain by the end of December 2022.
According to the media reports, a member of the IPL governing council has said that the IPL 2022 dateline will be declared in the next 7 to 8 days. Everything will become clear after that and the teams can start preparations after that.
It’s also almost certain that the IPL 2022 will be played in India. The last season was also played in India but due to the Covid-19 spread, half of the matches were organized in UAE.
What Are The IPL 2022 Mega Auction Retention Rules?
This time, you will not see the teams playing with the same squad as you saw in the previous season. The new retention rules are will be applied that will change the team combination of every IPL franchise.
Here are some of the highlights of the IPL 2022 mega auction retention rules.
- The previous 8 teams (10 teams will play the IPL 2022) can retain 4 players from their previous squad.
- 2 options will be available to the teams. Either retain 2 foreign players and 2 Indian players or 1 foreign player and 3 Indian players.
- No more than 2 uncapped players will be allowed to be retained by the teams.
- The “Right to Match” card facility will also stop due to the increase in the limit of the number of players to be retained.
IPL 2022 Auction Purse
The amount spent by the teams to buy players will also be increased.
Last year, every team was given a purse value of 85 crores to spend to buy new players. This will now be increased to 90 crores.
Also, it will also increase to 95 crores and 100 crores for IPL 2023 and IPL 2024.
No team will be allowed to spend more than the set budget of 90 crores. The salary of the retained players will also be paid from this budget only.
Special facility for new teams
BCCI has already announced 2 new teams for the IPL 2022. The 2 new teams are Ahmedabad and Lucknow who will play for the 1st time in the IPl 2022.
So the total number of teams playing the 15th season of IPL will be 10 and BCCI has also provided some special facilities for these 2 new teams.
The new teams may get the opportunity to sign 3 players outside of the auction. This is to make sure that the new teams get a fair chance to choose the best team comparable to the present 8 teams.
The Bottom Line
Overall, IPL 2022 is going to be one of the most entertaining tournaments to watch. The addition of the 2 new teams will spice up the tournament and it will be interesting to see how the new teams perform. Let’s hope that the 15th season of the IPL is a treat to watch.
