Here is the top 10 biggest 1st wicket partnership in the IPL since its start in 2008 till 2020.

1. 185 Runs – Jonny Bairstow and David Warner (SRH vs RCB)

This is the top highest opening partnership in IPL history. This partnership happened between Australia’s explosive opener David Warner and England’s Jonny Bairstow.

Both created this partnership for SRH against Virat Kohli’s RCB in IPL 2019. SRH made 229 runs in this match and comfortably won the match by huge 118 runs.

2. 184* Runs – Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn (KKR vs GL)

The partnership between Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn grabs the 2nd spot in this list of the top 10 highest opening partnerships in IPL.

Both these players created this partnership for KKR against Gujarat Lions in IPL 2017. On top of that, this partnership was unbroken and both players remained not out till the end.

KKR was chasing the score of 183 runs made by Gujarat Lions and comfortably won the match by 10 wickets with 31 balls remaining.

3. 183 Runs – KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal (KXIP vs RR)

The 3rd biggest 1st wicket partnership in IPL was created by KXIP players KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal in IPL 2020.

Punjab batted 1st in the match against Rajasthan Royals and their openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal played fabulously.

4. 181* Runs – Faf Du Plessis and Shane Watson (CSK vs KXIP)

The 4th highest 1st wicket partnership in IPL history was created between CSK’s opening pair Faf Du Plessis and Shane Watson.

Both these players made this partnership while chasing the score of 178 runs made by KXIP in IPL 2020.

Both the players remained not out till the end and CSK won this match comfortably by 10 wickets.

5. 167 Runs – Chris Gayle and Tilakaratne Dilshan (RCB vs PWI)

The 5th biggest first wicket partnership in IPL is in the name of Chris Gayle and Tilakaratne Dilshan. Both these players made the record partnership of 167 runs against Pune Warriors India in IPL 2013.

In this match Chris Gayle also made the highest T20 score in the world by scoring 175 runs in just 66 balls. He hit 13 fours and 17 sixes in his innings.

Dilshan’s contribution was only 33 runs in the partnership of 167 runs.

RCB scored 265 runs in 20 overs and easily won the match by 130 runs.

6. 163 Runs – Sachin Tendulkar and Dwayne Smith

The 6th spot in this highest opening partnerships in IPL is of 163 runs between Sachin Tendulkar and Dwayne Smith.

This partnership was created between these 2 players in the match between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians in IPL 2012.

In this match, Rajasthan Royals batted 1st and scored 162 runs in 20 overs.

In the reply, the opening pair of Mumbai, Dwayne Smith and Sachin Tendulkar, chased the target of 163 runs in 18 overs and made the 6th highest opening partnership in IPL history.

7. 160* Runs – Jonny Bairstow and David Warner

7th biggest partnership in IPL history was scored between explosive pair of Sunrisers Hyderabad – David Warner and Jonny Bairstow.

In a match against KXIP in IPL 2020, SRH batted 1st and scored 201 runs in 20 overs. The credit for this score goes only to the 1st wicket partnership of 160 runs between Warner and Bairstow.

Bairstow was the leading partner in this partnership who made 97 runs off 55 balls.

Punjab wasn’t able to chase this target and SRH easily won the match by 69 runs.

8. 159 Runs – Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay

CSK opening pair again gets a spot in the biggest 1st wicket partnership in the IPL history. But this time, it’s not Faf Du Plessis and Shane Watson.

This time, the opening pair was of Australian legend Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay.

Both these players made this opening partnership of 159 runs against a match against RCB in IPL 2011.

Murali Vijay’s 95 runs and Hussey’s 63 runs enabled Chennai to get to the score of 201 runs in 20 overs. In reply, RCB was only able to score 147 runs in 20 overs and Chennai won the match by 58 runs.

9. 155 Runs – VVS Laxman and Adam Gilchrist

This IPL opening partnership goes back to the 1st ever IPL in 2008. The team was Deccan Chargers and the opening pair was of Australia’s legendary wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist and Indian legend VVS Laxman.

This partnership of 155 runs between Gilchrist and Laxman was made in the match between Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai batted 1st and scored 154 runs in the allotted 20 overs.

In reply, the DC’s opening pair ensured that they win the match by 10 wickets. Gilchrist was the leading partner in this partnership who scored a ton (109 runs off 47 balls) and hit 10 sixes in his innings.

10. 151* Runs – David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha

The last in this list of highest opening partnerships in IPL history is the partnership between David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha of SRH.

This is also the 3rd biggest 1st wicket partnership of SRH in this list. This record partnership is the 4th partnership to come from IPL 2020.

SRH was up against MI in the IPL 2020 in Sharjah. MI batted 1st and scored 149 runs in 20 overs. SRH comfortably chased the target in 17.1 overs.

The opening pair of David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha made the 10th highest 1st wicket partnership of 151 runs in this match.

Warner scored 85 runs off 58 balls and Saha scored 58 runs off 45 balls.
